TruLog™ Steel Log Siding Performance

Hewing and Chinking for an Authentic Wood Appearance

How Steel Log Siding Works

When choosing imitation log siding, certain features lend to the appearance of genuine wood. At TruLog, we design our steel log siding with hew and chink lines. This innovative design gives our siding the realistic look of wood logs.

Traditional wooden logs have marks called hew lines, which show where the wood has been chopped and shaped. These distinctive markings have come to be associated with the character of log homes and cabins. We wanted our TruLog steel siding to have the natural appeal of wood.

With this in mind, we designed the siding to have hewing across its surface. This creates steel siding that looks like wood.

Chinking in a traditional log cabin refers to the line of sealant used between the logs. With faux log siding, chinking is functionally unnecessary but aesthetically desirable. TruLog steel log siding incorporates the appearance of chinking lines in the design.

With this aesthetic, your exterior log siding creates the appearance of a real log home. You get the authentic log cabin look without the recurring log home maintenance associated with timber. Metal log cabin siding offers a cozy cabin for generations to come.

Siding for your house should not only look authentic, it should perform well and improve your home’s efficiency. American-manufactured TruLog wood look steel siding offers all those benefits, plus the advantage of requiring no maintenance.

Easy to ship and have installed

TruLog is shipped in 12 ft. lengths that are 9 inches tall. This size enables us to easily ship it directly to you. Then your local installer or contractor can easily install the to complete your project.

Insulating foam backer

A foam backer is placed behind the log siding during installation. The foam insulates your home, adding an R value of about R-3 to R-4 to your home’s exterior. A higher R value increases the energy efficiency of the house. The foam backer also serves as a way to prevent the steel siding from denting.

26 Gauge Steel

Underneath the paint is tough, durable 26-gauge steel. Heavy gauge steel provides rigid home siding that will stand up to the elements.

Steel Log Siding Backed by Warranty

We stand by the quality, craftsmanship and performance of our faux log siding products. Our steel log siding comes with a limited lifetime warranty, including 30-year chalk and fade protection.

The state-of-the-art paint coating stands up to UV radiation from the sun to provide long-lasting fade resistance. Having a log-style home doesn’t have to involve maintenance every 2 to 3 years.

With TruLog faux log siding, your home will have that natural, charming appeal without the necessary maintenance. Typical staining, painting, sealing and log replacement required of homes made with timber logs are a thing of the past.

Log siding should be built with durability and strength, yet without losing the natural appeal of traditional wood logs. TruLog metal siding that looks like wood provides all the aesthetic benefits, without the hassle of upkeep.

Frequently Asked Questions About Steel Log Siding

Get answers to the most common questions our customers ask about our steel log siding product:

Is steel log siding right for my house?

Metal log siding is perfect for homeowners who want their home to carry a rustic charm. They offer the same aesthetic as traditional wood log houses, but with minimal maintenance.

The durable material found in wood look metal siding means your home’s exterior can stand up to the elements. Consider wood-look steel siding in areas with large climate changes, including mountains, coastal areas, and more.

Does steel log siding really look like logs?

We encourage you to order a sample and look for yourself. The amazing detail found in our wood look metal siding product is peerless. Only you will know your siding is not, in fact, real wood.

Is steel log siding that looks like wood cheaper than vinyl siding?

Metal siding that looks like wood has an average upfront cost that is higher than any other siding product. That is because you are paying for quality and durability. The good news with log steel siding is that for homeowners playing the long game, costs can be recouped. Their home material maintenance costs will likely be lower thanks to steel’s durability.

In contrast, vinyl may be a cheaper product to install to begin with. But regularly needs maintenance over the life of the product. Vinyl is notoriously vulnerable to extreme heat, temperature fluctuations, and more.

When calculating the cost of your new home siding, do the math. Consider whether you prefer immediate, one-time savings or savings over the life of your home. For most homeowners, the long reliability of metal log siding means a lower overall steel log siding cost.

How much does steel log siding cost?

Every home is different and requires a different amount of material to properly cover the sides. If you are wondering about steel log siding costs for your home, reach out to us. We encourage you to contact us and speak with our customer service team.
