Kirkland Kastle: More than a Texas Log Home

The notorious Kirkland Kastle in east Texas, which was once listed for sale at $4 million, is one of the priciest log homes ever. It is also one of the most extravagant.

The TruLog™ team and our customers know that everyone’s home is their castle, and that you don’t have to spend millions to achieve the rustic look and feel of an authentic log home. If you’re considering a Texas log home, but don’t have a Kirkland Kastle budget, give us a call at 970-646-4490 to learn more.

A Log Labor of Love

Kirkland Kastle gets its name from its first owners, Gerald and Kelly Kirkland. Sitting on a 40-acre estate with a private 12-acre lake about 50 minutes east of Dallas, the Kirkland Kastle log cabin was built by Gerald Kirkland with the assistance of four seasonal employees from his speaker-box construction business.

The logs are native Texas timber that Mr. Kirkland acquired from fellow residents within a 10-mile radius. He personally removed the trees, then custom milled them and treated them by hand; the whole process took about five years.

Kirkland Kastle Facts and Features

Tons of timber: Approximately 6,000 oak and cedar logs were used to construct the Kirkland Kastle.

Ample space: The Kirkland Kastle features 4,800 square feet of living space and about 9,800 square feet of covered porches.

A towering castle: Three stories tall, the Kirkland Kastle contains a master bedroom loft with two master baths.

Americana bandstand: The Kirkland Kastle estate houses a covered, log bandstand beside its lake.

Firmly rooted: The home is anchored on a foundation of belled piers, which were planted more than 8 feet into the bedrock earth and strengthened with concrete.

TruLog™ Homes and True Log Homes

Although the Kirkland Kastle was built to last, all log homes require routine maintenance. For older and larger Texas log homes, the cost of annual maintenance may be more than an average of $2 per square foot; for even a 1,500-square-foot home, than can mean more than $3,000 per year.

The patented TruLog system is truly maintenance free, and it can be easily cleaned by rinsing with a garden hose. It also offers exceptional insulation, improved energy efficiency, and greater protection from weather and fire compared with traditional logs and other log-like siding options.
