How to Hire a Siding Contractor

TruLog™ steel siding is an excellent choice for those who desire the look and feel of an authentic log home without the costly maintenance worries. But like any type of siding, TruLog requires a knowledgeable, professional contractor to ensure the siding is properly installed.

TruLog works with a number of reputable installers across the country, and we can help you find a quality siding contractor near you. Following are some general guidelines to help you feel confident in your choice of an installer.

Know the Product

It’s important to develop an understanding of the overall project. Before interviewing contractors, you should have a grasp on your siding product, related accessories, the extent of the work, and any service options. Check with your local building authority to determine if a permit is required for the job at hand.

Contractor Qualifications and Insurance

When interviewing siding installers and gathering estimates, make sure prospective contractors are licensed and bonded. Verify that contractors have adequate liability insurance and carry workers’ compensation insurance.

Check References

Don’t be afraid to ask a contractor for references of those who have had similar work performed. You may also wish to research online reviews from other customers, material suppliers and building authorities, and check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for any unresolved complaints.

The Big Picture

Get a handle on the big picture, including the complete costs, which may entail additional fees for delivery of equipment and products, cleanup and debris removal, permit or inspection fees, and sales tax. Make sure you understand the installation contract terms, payment plan, and relevant warranties.

Get it in Writing

After accepting an estimate, make sure all relevant details are noted in the contract. This includes all materials for the job, start and completion dates, itemized costs, payment schedule, and any additional warranties. TruLog and other types of siding come with a manufacturer warranty, but some contractors offer additional guarantees of their work; likewise, some siding warranties may be void if the siding is not properly installed or is not installed by a licensed contractor.
